Efficient Trenchless Pipe Lining in Atlanta, GA and Other Areas We Serve

Pipe lining is a trenchless method of restoring and repairing existing pipelines. It’s a highly useful technique when pipes are buried in areas that are difficult to reach or locations that would experience significant disruption due to extensive excavation and trench cutting.

At Federal EC, we’re experts in pipe rehabilitation. We also have extensive experience in utility projects, including sewer and storm drain systems and sinkhole restoration. Pipe lining serves as one of our most useful remedies for a range of causes in hard to reach areas. We offer our services in the following locations:

The Pipe Lining Process

Pipe lining is an alternative to the time, mess, and cost involved in excavating and replacing entire sections of drainage systems. There are several types of lining methods, including slip lining, fold-and-formed pipes, internal coating and CIPP pipe lining.

One of the more frequently-used methods is CIPP, which stands for cured-in-place pipe lining. In effect, it creates a second, continuous pipe within the existing drain line. It works by inverting, which is to turn inside-out, a fiberglass or polyester felt tube along the entire length of the pipeline. The tube is impregnated with a thermosetting resin, such as epoxy. Once inserted, the liner inflates and the resin cures with the help of steam or hot water and creates a corrosion-resistant, form-fitting replacement pipe with a 100 year design life.

Fold-and-formed lining is a thermoformed method. Polyvinyl chloride or polyethylene pipes come pre-folded in a C, U or H shape, which allows them to enter existing pipelines. After a pipe is inspected with a video camera and cleaned, the liner winches through, and steam is introduced evenly throughout, forming the liner and matching it with the pipe interior. Compressed air or water cool the liner, allowing it to fit tightly in place.

Slip lining pulls or pushes lengths of a new PE or other pipe into place. The pipe lengths can be joined with reinforced spigot joining, gasketed-bell methods, butt fusion technology or extrusion welding. The process can involve pit-access excavation, depending on the pipe depth and the liner stiffness and diameter, which can be factors in planning for geography.

Internal coating involves a cleaned and cleared pipe, which receives sprayed epoxy coating throughout the interior. The process seals cracks and leaks and creates a seamless and smooth and durable liner.

Common Issues That Require Pipe Lining

A few conditions often call for trenchless pipe lining in municipal, commercial or industrial systems. Shifting soil or poorly compacted soil following an installation or excavation or eroded rock or soil due to underground water flows can result in sinkholes. Sinkholes typically appear as depressions or deep cave-ins from underground shifting or voids.

Water flows from eroded or damaged drain or sewer lines or storm drain systems are some of the more common drivers of subsurface erosion, often in crowded city areas. In these instances, pipe lining serves as effective storm drain rehabilitation.

Pipeline inflows, leaks, and root infiltration are common problems in aging drain lines. Corrosion and mineral deposits in cast iron pipes also result in blockages and system backups. The corrosion-resistant and durable materials used in pipe lining are a sturdy deterrent to leaks and deterioration.

Benefits of Pipe Lining

Blockages and sewer damage result in flooded buildings and streets, causing property damage and disrupted traffic. These are urgent situations for municipal infrastructure that require effective solutions in areas with minimal access.

While traditional pipe line repairs and replacements typically involved extensive, costly and time-consuming excavation projects, trenchless pipe lining in Atlanta, GA, and surrounding areas eliminates much of the excavation and replacement work. It also bypasses the hours of digging and heavy equipment involved in traditional methods by providing durable and seamless alternatives that require minimal personnel and more efficient machinery.
